Football is more than just a sport; it is part of the community's identity and pride. Papua is known for producing talented football players in Indonesia. Icons such as Boaz Solossa, Elie Aiboy, and Ricky Kambuaya highlight Papua's significant contribution to national football.
There are several football schools in Papua, including one in Serui, located in the Yapen Islands Regency. This school, SSB Sapta Marga Sarirei Serui, is considered one of the most prominent. It has established itself as a center for developing talented young players with strong character, while also providing career opportunities through recruitment by League 1 and League 2 clubs.
SSB Sapta Marga Sarirei Serui began in the 2000s as a local initiative by community leaders and football fans who shared a strong determination to nurture Papua’s younger generation. The school focuses on training U-13, U-16, and U-19 age groups under the guidance of Coach Han Mamoribo and assistant coach Sinyo Wayoi. From a modest field in Serui, it has achieved regional success by actively participating in inter-school football tournaments across Papua and West Papua. Notable achievements include:
- 1st Place in the U-15 SSB Supyor Cup I Football Tournament in 2019
- 1st Place in the U-16 TTC (Cenderawasih Bay Tour) in 2020

Behind
the glittering achievements on the field stands a figure who works quietly,
with dedication and selflessness. He is Sinyo Wayoi, the assistant coach of SSB
Sapta Marga, and one of the driving forces behind youth football development in
Serui. While not as well-known as the star players of Liga 1, his guidance as a
youth coach has made him a crucial part of SSB Sapta Marga's journey.
Passionate about football since childhood, he grew up playing on village fields
before becoming actively involved in the local community. As an assistant
coach, Sinyo supports the head coach in team preparation, strategy, physical
training, and the mental development of players. Firm yet warm, he is often
called the "field guru" by the children he coaches. He helps them
maintain consistent training, builds their confidence, and inspires Serui’s
young players to dream big—aiming for Liga 1 and even the Indonesian national
team.
Furthermore, as an alumnus of Stube HEMAT, which emphasizes character development, Sinyo brings his coaching spirit and dedication to the field, nurturing Serui children to become accomplished football players and people of character. He believes that football is not only about technique but also about building the mindset and character of Papuan children. The sport teaches discipline, the value of hard work, and sportsmanship, while also providing a positive pathway that helps Papuan youth avoid negative influences.
Sinyo
Wayoi proves that Stube HEMAT alumni can make a real contribution to society.
He is passionate about developing young people through football. As part of a
Papuan social movement, he paves the way for children to dream of joining the
national football team. Sinyo Wayoi stands as a living example of how education
and sports can work together to shape the future of young people. ***
